Monitoring and evaluation of gender equality policies

The 2030 Agenda has been adopted to achieve a better and sustainable future for all. process of approaching its 17 Sustainable Development Goals is monitored through global system 240 statistical indicators approved in March 2016 by the United Nations Statistical Commission. Goal 5 seeks gender equality empowerment all women girls: it broken down into 9 targets. According these targets, are being established monitoring evaluating progress on SDG order ensure high transparency accountability within Agenda. A plan will typically address several issues at once, leading complex set measures. Nonetheless, effective evaluation instruments often lacking, which undermines transformative potential planned If objectives not indexed relevant progress, success or outreach indicators, difficult assess whether organisation actually transformed. Monitoring critical building strong, evidence base around assessing wide, diverse range interventions implemented it. Policy makers need support now if they use as an opportunity improve policies programmes closer home, applying tailored approaches. This paper deals with Italy.
